Professional Training with Adoption Journeys
Join us for an enriching day exploring these two topics:
Preparing children for adulthood starts at birth. For children with trauma histories, preparing for adulthood requires a different approach to parenting—one that doesn’t begin at 18 and certainly doesn’t end there. This is especially true for our children with adoption or guardianship. In this workshop, we will explore how to adjust expectations, provide accommodations, and create a pathway to success tailored to their unique needs. Participants will learn strategies to use throughout childhood that help set the foundation for success in adulthood.
Do you ever wish we could return to simpler times when technology wasn’t such a central part of our children’s lives? Technology safety is a challenge for all parents, but it becomes even more complex when parenting children with trauma histories and neurodiversity. In this session, we will discuss why these challenges are greater for our children and share practical strategies to help keep them safe in an increasingly digital world.
Barb Clark is the Director of Training at Families Rising (fka NACAC) and is an adoptive and kinship parent to five adult children. She is passionate about learning from her many mistakes and sharing them with others so they can avoid the same mistakes. She uses humor and real-life experiences to help professionals and caregivers challenge the use of traditional strategies and push them to think outside of the box.
