Child & Family Services’ Caring Network Program Receives $20,000 Grant from SouthCoast Community Foundation

Illustrated news and media communication graphicNEW BEDFORD, MA (July 14, 2026) — Child & Family Services’ Caring Network Program has received a $20,000 grant from the SouthCoast Community Foundation’s Basic Human Needs Portfolio. The Foundation’s contribution ensures the program remains at full capacity to continue supporting children traumatized by violence across New Bedford and Fairhaven public schools.

Child & Family Services recognizes and understands the impact that exposure to violence has on our children. Since 1996, the Caring Network has supported children aged 4-14 who have experienced or witnessed violence in their home, school, or community. The program offers free weekly psycho-educational groups. Not only do these groups provide a safe space for children to share their experiences, but the Caring Network team guides children through initial trauma by teaching them how to manage their feelings, improve their self-image, develop safety plans in the event of future violence, and implement healthy coping mechanisms to resolve tension and conflict without resorting to violence.

Children who have witnessed or are victims of violence often face traumatic flashbacks, fears, anxieties, and trouble eating and sleeping. The Caring Network adapts to each child’s individual and developmental needs to provide appropriate behavioral and emotional care.
